From May 22 to 23, 2025, the 2024 International Quality Innovation Competition Release Conference and Award Ceremony was successfully held in Bangkok, Thailand. On the international stage, Xingtai Iron and Steel won the honor for the industry for the first time: the project "Technological Innovation and Application of High-Strength and Ultra-High Purity Cold Heading Steel for New Energy Vehicles" released by its technical R&D team won the first prize of the competition. It is the first international award won by Xinggang and also the first international award won by the steel industry since the launch of the International Quality Innovation Competition.

The International Quality Innovation Competition is the most influential international quality exchange activity in the field of quality innovation. It was officially initiated by the Finnish Quality Organization in 2007, with the participation of quality organizations from China, Russia, Sweden, India, Israel, Spain and other countries, and has a history of 18 years. In 2021, at the initiative of the Finnish Quality Organization and with the support of all member organizations, the China Association for Quality has served as the chair of the Roundtable Committee of the International Quality Innovation Competition since 2022. It evaluates around two dimensions of innovation and quality, as well as five characteristics of novelty, practicality, knowledge, customer orientation and effectiveness, and has now become an important platform for sharing and exchange, building consensus and gathering synergy.

 

The Xinggang project released this time is based on the company's existing equipment. Through quality innovation, the R&D team has successfully obtained key technologies such as ultra-high purity of molten steel, three-stage cooling of billet surface, and control of microstructure homogenization, and has obtained 16 authorized patents. It provides necessary technical support for industry needs such as cleanliness, surface quality and microstructure homogenization of steel for automotive bolts. The product quality has reached the international advanced level and is widely used in many leading new energy vehicle enterprises. In terms of low-carbon environmental protection, it has promoted the strong development of new energy vehicles.

Quality builds brands, and innovation leads the future. In recent years, Xinggang has continued to make efforts in the innovation system, scientific and technological planning, talent team, cooperative R&D, intellectual property rights and other aspects to comprehensively improve the level of technological R&D and innovation. It has given full play to the role of Xinggang Expert Committee and the technical center work platform to enhance the innovation, synergy and systematization of the technical R&D system; focusing on the requirements of demand upgrading, low cost and high-quality development, it has successfully developed a series of high-end steel grades that replace foreign imports, such as cold heading steel for high-strength automotive engine bolts, high-strength weathering steel, anneal-free cold heading steel, non-quenched and tempered steel, and steel for ultra-high-strength bolts; at present, the average age of the company's R&D team is 37 years old, and 90s young workers account for as high as 42%; in addition, the company has also given full play to the leading role of the postdoctoral workstation, Hebei Wire Rod Engineering Research and Innovation Center and Xinggang's professional wire rod production advantages, and has carried out efficient cooperation with University of Science and Technology Beijing, Northeastern University, China Iron and Steel Research Institute Group and other units, creating a new pattern of "development, cooperation and sharing"; Xinggang now has 182 authorized patents, including 62 invention patents, and 81 excellent scientific and technological achievements and award-winning projects.
